The Centre Is The High Scorer

I grew up on the Jewish left. My mother was a Red Diaper Baby — the child of communists. Yiddish was her first language until she started grade school, and it was my second language while a child in Winnipeg. I remained on the left well into my 20s, when I finally began to see sense on the right. Even so, I was never a convinced conservative of the type now running some governments in Canada, including the federal government.

I am religiously traditional but also progressive and identify with the faith-left. I’ve become convinced that politically I am a Progressive-Conservative, however, that strange Canadian hybrid that is progressive but isn’t Liberal and certainly isn’t social democratic. I would have been, at one time, a perfect candidate for Bnai Brith membership.
